Zane Tankel - Chairman
Zane Tankel, Chairman and CEO, is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and a “hands on” entrepreneur/investor. He owned and operated a graphic arts company with five plants in the United States, doing short run printing and color separations. He sold three of the plants to Potomac Graphic Industries and continued to operate plants in Detroit, Michigan and Cambridge, Massachusetts until the mid-90s.
He has also been involved as an investor/operator in businesses engaged in public relations, security, consulting, real estate, a radio station, and restaurants. He was the owner/operator of Cameos, a fine dining restaurant in Manhattan. He also was a partner with Regis Philbin, Jackie Mason, and Mikhail Baryshnikov in Columbus restaurants in Manhattan.
Zane was a mountain climber for 10 years climbing various peaks in Peru, Ecuador, Chile and peaks in North America. In 1985 he was a member of the Canadian expedition to Mount Everest. Zane has also traveled over land to both the North and South Poles, and has traveled extensively throughout the world. He is a former Chairman of the Metro Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), and was a founder of the advisory board for the Boys and Girls Choir of Harlem; he served as Chairman of the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation; he was elected by the international body as a member of the Chief Executives Organization; he is a member and Director of the Board of the Metropolitan Presidents Organization (MPO), which is the New York chapter of the World Presidents Organization (WPO). He also serves / has served on the boards of a number of public and privately owned companies. Zane is also a founding director and member of the Executive Committee for Bridging the Rift as well as a founding member of The Federal Law Enforcement Foundation.
Zane has been married to Joan for 38 years with whom he has two daughters, Melani and Nicole. Zane and Joan are active participants in training and sports activities; Zane is an avid cyclist, martial artist, third degree black belt, swimmer and weight trainer.
He and his partner Roy Raeburn, President of Apple-Metro, are now intensely involved in the day-to-day operation and control of Applebee’s®, Zanaro's and Chevys restaurants.
Roy Raeburn – President
Roy Raeburn is a graduate of the University of Witwatersrand Business School in South Africa. He was the owner/operator of a high-tech ophthalmic and medical business, which he sold before coming to the United States in 1983, initially owning and operating a promotional and advertising business before entering the restaurant business through the acquisition of a number of Roy Rogers units. After acquiring the development rights for Applebee’s in Staten Island, Westchester and Rockland Counties in New York, Roy disposed of his interest in Roy Rogers. Roy now focuses his full attention on building and operating both Applebee’s, Zanaro's and Chevys restaurants in the New York development territories.
Roy has been married to his wife Charmion for 25 years, and they have a daughter, Sacha. All of the family members are avid skiers and enjoy traveling.
Roy was active on the Franchise Advisory Council for Roy Rogers for a period of five years, and acted as its President in 1992 and 1993. He is one of the five elected members of the franchise business council for Applebee's®.
Roy was an active member of the Metro Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), and has served on its Board of Directors. He is presently a member of the New York Chapter of the World Presidents Organization.
Roy is currently a part of the following Applebee's® International committees: Chairman of Franchise Business Council, Director of the Board of the Apple Supply Chain Co-Op Inc., Member of Franchise Marketing, Food & Beverage Councils and Ad Fund Committee, Franchise Menu and Marketing Council and the Data Mining Committee.
Roy and Zane are passionate about providing an excellent dining experience for their customers, and their efforts are being rewarded through the tremendous support they are receiving from the communities in which they have opened restaurants.
Frank Venice – Executive Vice President And Chief Financial Officer
Frank Venice graduated Providence College in 1962 with a BS degree and is a CPA. From 1962 to 1972 Frank worked at Touche Ross where he became the senior manager in charge of the largest worldwide fee account, CIT Financial Corporation. In 1972 Frank was recruited to become the chief financial officer and a Director of the largest meat processor in the northeast. He left the company in 1975 to become the CFO of the largest indoor tennis developer/operators in the nation. In 1977 Frank joined Zane Tankel at the Collier Group of Companies, which was involved in businesses ranging from graphic arts and printing to entertainment management. Frank and Zane have worked together since that time in various companies and in various associations. From 1991 to 1995 Frank was the CFO of one of the largest nursing home operators in the country. In 1994, most of its nursing homes were sold to Integrated Healthcare in the largest industry transaction that year. Shortly after the sale, Frank rejoined Zane to become the CFO of Apple-Metro, Inc.
Frank has been married to to his wife Bunky for 41 years and lives in Bayside (Queens), New York. Frank and Bunky have four children, and three grandchildren.
